Rescue Me ID: 14-10-23-00424Pearl (female)
We have a 10 month old 'blue' female Great Dane named Pearl. She needs more 'people' time. We are not home during the day and feel that she is not happy when she is alone. Gentle with kids, other dogs and even cats.

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-19-00391Sweety (male)
SWEETY Life hasn't been kind to this wonderful character. Sweety has spend his entire life chained to a tree. He has discovered the world only as far as his short chain allowed him to. He has never experienced the comfort and warmth of being with a family. Now he is confined to an even smaller space in a kennel at the animal shelter in Saluda in Middlesex County, VA. Sweety is a malnourished yet gorgeous, large Great Dane-American Bulldog mix. He is approximately 1 1/2 years old, weighs about 90 pounds and is as polite, calm, kind and friendly as can be. He likes everything and everybody. His state of mind could be compared to a toddler looking at the wonders of this world in disbelief. Since he has been freed from his chain, so many new impressions flood his mind that he doesn't know what to think of it. It would be wonderful if someone would take the time to lovingly shape his opinion, to teach him right from wrong. Sweety is eager to learn and easy to teach because he is HIGHLY intelligent. His general gentle attitude is to please people although he doesn't really know how yet, other than offering his paw to shake people's hands. Sweety needs gentle people with 'dog sense' to start his training immediately to prevent more of his precious life to be wasted. If you're willing to discover the world with him please call the Manager at the Middlesex Animal Shelter in Saluda VA, at 804-695-7772. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-02-00023Lucky (male)
This handsome guy named Lucky is a big old softy! He is one of the most laid back dogs ever! Even when treats are being handed out, he just hangs back and waits until the other dogs have stopped all crowding around to get his. LUCKY can be a little apprehensive going to new places and so he will need some patience and positive reinforcement when going to new places for the first time, but once he has been there a while he settles into his laid back demeanor. Although laid back, LUCKY of course LOVES to play with the other dogs, he plays with toys and he wrestles and rolls around with the other dogs. He has not ever shown any sign of aggression, he eats and lives with all the other dogs of all ages and sizes. LUCKY does use a dog door and hasn't had any accidents, however, in his new home he would need to adjust to being on a new routine with a new family and would also need to learn how to let you know he needs to go outside. Lucky is an 'honorary German Shepherd' in a German Shepherd rescue in TX. We use Rescue Road Trips to deliver these wonderful dogs to loving homes up north. The next transport is filling up fast, so get your app in now for this special hunk! Go to www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org NOW to fill out an application to make Lucky part of your family. (Less)

*This dog can only be adopted within the Washington D.C. metro area.* I am an exceptionally handsome, if I do say so myself, black Great Dane. I am pretty powerful but love to lean on my people and would love to spend some time with you. A bit of training and I'd be a great addition to your home. I would prefer a home without young children. Please see FOHA website for more details: http://foha.org/index.php?id=27&petid=1137

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-06-00011Chauncey (male)
Chauncey is available for adoption. He does wonderful with small dogs, cats, and large female dogs. SOME large male dogs he dislikes. He is a large dog who still is very much puppy. He needs an active family. Chauncey loves children! He is shy of elderly men with beards (We don't know why) I suggest a home within a couple hours so we can make sure Chauncey fits within your family. He has very unique requests and the best way to make him happy is to just give him a try. Chauncey is 85 lbs

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-27-00233Crash (male)
Crash is ten months old and weighs 87 lbs.He is a gentle giant but has no idea he is not a Chihuahua. He knows sit, down, and wait but he still needs work on jumping up when he gets excited. He walks well on a leash. He had a very awkward goofy in your face approach to meeting new dogs and they are generally intimidated by his size and do not react well, thankfully he is submissive and doesn't react back. Curiosity might just kill the cat if he is not trained properly on what is and is not acceptable. More than likely he will need a home with no cats and a very tolerant playful dogs close to his size. He is GREAT with kids, very gentle kisses and he loves to snuggle. He was adopted from shelter directly and returned less than 24 hours later because he wanted to lay with her kids when they were napping. Neutered, microchiped, utd, crate trained, house broken (Less)

Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
