Rescue Me ID: 15-05-07-00795Thor (male)
Thor was surrendered by his owners due to undisclosed reasons. He's a beautiful black and white boy. He's around 10 to 12 weeks old and is already big. We were told Thor is a pit/bull terrier mix. We don't see either breeds as he's already huge at a young age and he has the droopy eyes like a dane. We believe because of his size and his coat that he may possibly be Dane. He is a sweet boy we are working on crate training which he does well with and does potty outside but will need more training in the house. Would do well in any home must be an indoor boy and you must want a big dog as he is going to be. Thors adoption of $350.00 is to cover all his vetting he has had no shots until we got him and he gets his next shot in two weeks and we are planning to schedule his neuter within the time he gets his next set of shots. Will have all shots he is due for his age neutered heartworm tested microchipped flea treated and wormed. If interested in Thor email call or text. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-23-00327Sampson (male)
Hello! My name is Sampson and I am three year old Rescue. I am ~75lbs and on the smaller end of a 'large dog'. My mom thinks I am a Catahoula Mix, but in new situations I am a little skiddish like a Dane! I get alone great with humans!! But not so well with dogs because I was attacked once as a puppy so it skewed my perception of other dogs. I do not go after dogs if I see them, however I enjoy my personal space and should be kept on a leash if I am going to be around them. I get along great with kids of all age, however I would do best with no young children in the house, because at night I like my own space. I go hiking and backpacking with my mom all the time and I LOVE THE OUTDOORS! I can run all day with you or if you are busy I am also very good at napping! I am not a high energy boy by any means, but I have incredible endurance. My mom also says I need a special owner who has had dog experience before due to my sometimes, nervous and fearful personality. I can sit, stay, down, heel, come and more! I never have accidents in the house and don't chew on anything. I get pretty sad when you leave though so I wouldn't like to be left home along all day. Hello! My name is Kate and I am Sampson's mom. I love him more than anything in the world and it is only because I love him that I am letting him go. We added another dog to our pack a year and half ago and unfortunately Sampson just needs to be the only dog somewhere. He is not aggressive with our dog since he grew up around him but just the presence of another dog in the house is making him uncomfortable and it's a shame to see him unhappy. He would be happy with an outdoorsy person or couple that has some room to play. Additionally, I have a report from a behaviorist outlining his assessment if you are interested in meeting him. I am only charging a fee, because I want it to go towards training for you and him. I am more than happy to speak with you if you an interested and feel free to give me a call. Thank you so much, Kate (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-12-00399Crash (male)
Weighing in at 120 pounds, Crash is one big boy! We guess him to be an American Bulldog/Great Dane mix. There is not a mean bone in his great big body, but Crash was not property socialized as a puppy, and as a result, this big goofy boy is no 'social genius'. He is WONDERFUL at home, but social scenes aren't his strong suit, and his extra-large size can make him hard to manage. Because of this, Crash will need a dedicated owner willing to work on desensitizing him to social situations, or someone that's okay with him being a home body. He is crate trained, house broken, and working on his leash manners. He knows sit, down and wait. We are willing to waive his adoption fee for a potential family to put towards a professional trainer to help fine tune him. What Crash may lack in manners, he more than makes up for with his charm and personality. Come meet Crash and see his big, sweet, mushy face in person. Approximately 2-3 years old, 123 pounds (3/2015) Virginia Paws for Pits is a registered 501c3 charity. All of our dogs are pulled form high kill shelters in VA, NC, SC, TN, and GA. Please visit our website at www.virginiapawsforpits.org for more information on any dog or if you'd like to fill out an adoption application for any dog. Adoption fees are as follows: $250 for puppies under 6 months that have not yet been spayed/neutered, $200 for dogs under 1 year that have been altered, $150 for dogs over 1 year, and $100 for dogs that have been in our program for over a year. Adoption fees include spay/neuter (if old enough), all age appropriate vaccines, dewormer (for puppies), and microchip for all dogs. All of our dogs are either in foster homes or local boarding. Please call us or email us if you'd like to set up a meet with one of our dogs. We have several featured dogs at our Petco adoption events every Saturday from 10-2. Rescueme.org asks us to name a predominate breed. We use visual identification to do this which is not always reliable. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-06-00011Chauncey (male)
Chauncey is available for adoption. He does wonderful with small dogs, cats, and large female dogs. SOME large male dogs he dislikes. He is a large dog who still is very much puppy. He needs an active family. Chauncey loves children! He is shy of elderly men with beards (We don't know why) I suggest a home within a couple hours so we can make sure Chauncey fits within your family. He has very unique requests and the best way to make him happy is to just give him a try. Chauncey is 85 lbs

Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
