Great Dane Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

We found Duke in summer 2012 as a stray and were able to find the owner, however he was not able to keep him and duke appeared underfed when we took him in. Duke is a very smart, loving dog. He loves everyone and is great with kids, as we have a 4 and 11 yr old. He is house trained, will sit, lay, and shake on command. Overall he mainly enjoys laying around with his family and is just a big baby, but he is not Able to spend enough time with us inside bc of out busy life and bc We already had two dogs prior to taking duke in. Also, my husband (his main caregiver) was recently in a car accident and has a fractured spine and has been unable to ... (Read More)spend time with him as he did prior to this and truly we don't have enough time for any of our dogs. Duke has also recently been climbing our fence, which I feel is related to boredome and we are afraid he will be hit by a car. I am hoping to find him a safe, loving home where he will get the attention he deserves. I will be very selective to make sure he goes to a safe home. Please contact me if seriously interested.     Chauncey is available for adoption. He does wonderful with small dogs, cats, and large female dogs. SOME large male dogs he dislikes. He is a large dog who still is very much puppy. He needs an active family. Chauncey loves children! He is shy of elderly men with beards (We don't know why) I suggest a home within a couple hours so we can make sure Chauncey fits within your family. He has very unique requests and the best way to make him happy is to just give him a try. Chauncey is 85 lbs

PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in Virginia
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
