Rooster is a great dog. He is god with other dogs, at least so far. He gets very excited about cats but just wants to smell them and try to get them to play! He is very loving and VERY smart. He likes to be around his 'people'. He knows 'sit' and 'down' and we have been working on 'stay', although he is still puppyish so it's sometimes to exciting for him to obey immediately. Rooster has a skin condition. The vet tested him and said he has demodex mange, he's been treated once but once the treatment was complete it came back! He was originally a foster that we took on, he didn't show any signs of health problems at the time but then developed the mange. Now, we have REALLY run out of resources to care for him. We would have preferred to keep him forever because he is such a great dog, but we know it's not fair to him since we can't get him situated with his health problems=( I will be closely screening any potential homes for him but, if I find the right home or rescue (with Vet references) there will be no fee. He will come with his belongings of course. Please contact me if you're interested in this sweet boy and can afford to take care of this mange problem. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 14-11-12-00436Roadie (male)|
Roadie is a 'GREAT LAB' as we call him, being a mix of Lab & Great Dane- he is the Most Agreeable Boy I have ever come across... he is friendly with all humans and animals alike and is very partial to children! He is a BIG boy, has the body type and size of a small Great Dane and the look and temperament of a Yellow Lab. He comes up to my hips on all fours and I am 5'6'... he is about 2.5 yrs old. He LOVES walks and play time, he LOVES car rides and he is a great rider- only safe riding though inside the car, not in the back of a pick up, he would jump out and be severely injured or killed! Roadie Loves, Loves, Loves children and loves to wrestle and play with other dogs of all sizes and breeds, seems guarded around dogs larger than himself, (friendly dogs only please, as he is completely Non-aggressive and loving toward all!)he is friendly with cats, horses and Everyone! He would be great on a farm... likes to explore a little bit, so must be monitored for safety and should have a secured play area. Roadie is completely House & Obedience trained and should be an indoor living dog with full freedom, (no crating needed) and monitored outdoor play time in the day, he could not and should not be left in a fenced yard unattended and definitely not while you leave the home, he will find his way out and do himself harm... only indoors while you are away from home! Walks great on a leash, but is a strong boy, not really a puller, just Big & Strong :-) Wants to meet & greet EVERYONE, even people in cars, so must be held firmly and told to stay repeatedly when walking on lead while cars go by, we are working to curb that desire to jump out at cars and he is doing well. He likes attention & petting and would like to lay with you and take up the entire couch, haha! Roadie was found clipped on the side of the road and it was confirmed he had a partial tear in his ACL of the left rear leg when found, with too much activity he would limp... he was evaluated over night at my vet and all checked out fine and he was put on a high glucosamine food with Omega's and anti-inflammatory therapy with hopes of healing that partial tear. Well, months later his partial tear became a full tear and Roadie has undergone ACL repair surgery on the left rear leg (Dec 3rd, 2014)... he is now recovered after more than 16 weeks plus of recovery time and rehab and has healed quite well! Cold Laser therapy after surgery really helped the healing process. He can now roam freely in the yard in addition to his daily walks and gets short periods of doggie play with RedDog & Kabuki daily. Steps are still limited, just outside short steps to deck, doorway, etc... no lengthy indoor stairways yet, and he would be best to be limited with those in the future, constant stair climbing can strain the knee. But he is well, stable and ready for his new home now! YEAH!!! Roadie has had all vaccines updated at the time he was found- 8/1/14. He is neutered/ HW Neg and on Heartgard & Advantix Plus monthly. Roadie is a very happy, healthy boy and will make a great addition to any household! Call for more info on Roadie... Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in South Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
