Animal ID: BrutusBrutus (male)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Brutus is officially ready for his forever home! Brutus is a two year old owner-surrender and a complete sweetheart. Since his neuter, he is much more well behaved and we have had zero incidents with him trying to play an alpha. This boy has zero aggression, and if anything, is a big baby that will get his feelings hurt if he feels that another person (or animal) does not like him. He likes to talk, especially if his feelings are hurt or if he is hungry. This boy does not play when it comes to meal time! His internal alarm clock is on point so you'll never have to worry about missing a meal with him. Brutus loves going for car rides and ... (Read More)walks. He is getting better with leash training and will do best with a person or family that is looking for a dog to take with them on adventures. He does really well in his crate. There haven't been any issues with potty accidents or shredding of toys or his bed while left alone. And while he does really well with the kitten in the house; he will need to either go to a home without cats, or to a home with a dog savvy cat and an owner that is willing to continue working on Brutus' manners around his feline friends. Brutus has done exceptionally well at doggy day camp and has made many friends - both people and pups alike! He will continue going to camp to help him socialize and become an all around pretty amazing dog. . (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-20-00240Delilah (female)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Delilah is a sweet 1 1/2 YO girl came to PAWS as an owner surrender. Her personality and behavior can best be described as playful, vocal, friendly, independent, affectionate, and laid back. She is very good at listening to basic commands and is always excited to see you and give you lots of love. Delilah is an active girl and only somewhat vocal. When she's with her canine foster buddies, she love to play and run with them and is very friendly towards them. It is unknown how she is with cats as she hasn't been around them. When riding in a car, she is calm and quiet. Delilah is being fostered in a home with two small boys, ages 3 ... (Read More)and 4 and she's very friendly towards them. Because of her size and energy, she could knock a small child over out of excitement so it would be recommended she be supervised around small children. Delilah gets very excited (high energy) to see people and other dogs, but calms down shortly afterwards. She loves to wrestle and go for long walks, but most of all, she enjoys being loved on. She is housebroken and walks nicely on a leash. Delilah uses a crate, but doesn't really like it. Her foster says she is just a lovable goofball who likes to spend her time horsing around with other dogs. Since she's been in foster, she's improved with her leash training and thriving with basic commands. Delilah would do best with an individual or family who are experienced dog owners and who have canine companions or give her lots of opportunities to interact with other dogs. She is well suited to active homes and lifestyles where she'll be living inside as a member of the family and enjoying the same comforts they do, while given plenty of exercise in a fenced yard, dog park, or hikes/walks.     Meet Blue! Blue was an owner surrender locally and is approximately 8 years old. She is no 'old lady', she is playful and loves to give hugs. Initially, she was shy but was so thankful to her foster family for pulling her out of the shelter she has made herself right at home:) She loves people and especially sleeping on beds, no crate necessary because she has perfect manners. She can 'sit' and 'shake' even without a treat and likes to go on short walks. She has done well with other dogs and cats but is protective of her 'people'. Rescue Me ID: 17-06-27-00658Maggie (female)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi I'm Maggie. I am a 4 1/2 year old Great Dane/ Lab mix. I am a supper sweet girl looking for a forever home. I am full of energy and love to play, cuddle and get lots of loving and attention. I do have a high prey drive so I would do best in a home where I am the only dog or the other dogs are large breeds (I do NOT do well with SMALL DOGS or CATS). I have never been around very small children but do great with older kids. I am update on all of my vaccinations, spayed, HW negative, deworrmed and microchipped. I am the ultimate velcro doggie. I want nothing more than to be close to my person and make them happy. I have obedience training ... (Read More)and respond to both verbal and hand cues. It has been decided that I may have what it takes to be a Service dog so the rescue is enrolling me in the Working Dog/Service Dog program. I am ready to be someones forever baby. If you feel that you have room in your heart and home for me, please do not hesitate to email FTLODNC@gmail.com for an adoption application. There is an adoption process. 1. You request an adoption application (email FTLODNC@gmail.com to request an application). 2. Your references and Vet reference will be checked, (your answers will be matched up with the particular dog - and others that are available). 3. IF all is well, a Home Visit will be scheduled. Sometimes a video or photos will be allowed. any issues will be identified and addressed. 4. IF all that has been done and it's all good then a Meet and Greet would be scheduled, IF that goes well then... You would be able to sign the adoption contract, pay the adoption fee (or make prior arrangements) and take me to my new forever home. It sounds like a lot - and maybe it is... but the Rescue only has my best interest at heart and they want to ensure that the family that takes me home is a good fit for my personality, temperament and that I have the best possible chances for a successful forever placement. So please don't be hesitant to put a little effort into bringing me, or one of my other rescue pals into your home. Thank You for considering Rescue over breeders. (Less)

Animal ID: ShyAnnShyAnn (female)

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

ShyAnn is a medium-sized Great Dane rescued from a shelter where she was diagnosed heartworm positive. Since then, she has come to live with her foster family and has started treatment for the heartworms. Her foster home has lots of other animals that include cats, other dogs big and small, and even a Pot Bellied Pig! She is great with all of them as well as with children. She loves her humans, big and small, boy or girl. She loves the outside and loves to do zoomies. She is a Little Miss Smartypants and knows how to open the gate, but it's just to show off because she doesn't go anywhere and wants to stay close to her humans. ShyAnn is very ... (Read More)shy when it comes to new people and situations, and it seems that before her foster home, she never lived inside as she is not so comfortable in the house, but that is getting better! She will pace around a good bit, but will eventually settle on a blanket or a doggy bed. She can counter surf with the best of them, but her foster mom has started training to teach her to stay out of the kitchen. She does not get on the furniture, and has only had two accidents (pretty good for a doggie who has never lived in the house!). She likes her crate for safety and comfort and to eat, but doesn't like to be in it for too long. If any of the other animals, like the pig, are in it, she is glad to share it. She is afraid of loud noises. She is doing well with her leash training and now even wags her tail a bit on walks instead of keeping it tucked. She is a VERY curious girl. Everything is so new to her, but she is blossoming into such a wonderful sweet girl and just needs a family that will have patience with her and give her the confidence she needs. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in North Carolina
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
