Rescue Me ID: 17-06-25-00278Finley (male)

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Finley is a 150 pound friendly, outgoing dog. He still acts like a puppy, however he also loves to take naps. He loves to sit on your lap, cuddle, and his ears rubbed. He is crate trained and house trained and knows basic commands. Unfortunately, we have had some issues with him being possessive of his food and jealousy towards our other dog. However, he does get along well and plays well with other dogs. He listens best to males and would be best in a home with no kids or other dogs. He loves your full attention.

Great Dane Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Savage is a very sweet boy. Approx 5 months old. He is great with other dogs(we have 80lb Pitt/Mastiff & 5lb YorkiePoo Mix)& has been good with our cat(the cat doesn't like him tho). He is house trained & loves to go in his crate when we leave for work. A young couple got him (was told he was a Lab) & they were not ready for the responsibility of a puppy. The guy did not have the patience & would lock Savage in the kitchen. So, she asked us to take Savage because she didn't think it was fair for the dog to be treated like that.

Good evening, Due to unfortunate circumstances I am in a situation where I need to find a place for my Great Dane rescue who I've had several years. I DO NOT want to have to bring him to the pound/shelter at the last minute and am hoping to find a rescue for him. Can you help or refer me to a place that can? He is black with white paws, approximately 4-6 years old, and a kind, mellow house-broken friend who needs a home.

Animal ID: DiamondDiamond (male)

Great Dane    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Diamond. I am a 6 - year-old Great Dane that my owner surrendered total the shelter. A wonderful rescue came a saved me from being in that strange place. Getting to my new foster was awesome. I found this thing they call a couch. I did not know anything could be so soft and comfortable. Riding in a car is not my favorite thing to do, but I met more wonderful people at the 'vet's office' as they call it. I really do love being around people. I am really drawn to men more than women buy, hey, if you want to pet and love on me, I do not care. I mean what can you do when I walk up and slide my big ol' head in your hand and look up at ... (Read More)you with my pitiful eyes. My foster has this thing called a cat but, I don't see what the fascination is with it. I would rather just lay on my couch... except when I want attention. Great Dane    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Sagan, named after the famous astronomer:) I am a 5 yr old 'tea cup' Dane weighing in just over 100 lbs! My original owners had to surrender me when they both ran into health problems and had a hard time letting me go :( I was lucky to find a foster family that lets me recline on their couch and share toys with their 2 smaller dogs. They even have a cat but he just doesn't want to be my friend but I keep trying every day. I am 100% healthy and still have some spunk for a 5 yr old. I love short walks and completely house trained. Ideally, I would like to sleep with you in your bed but have adjusted to a dog bed too! I'm very ... (Read More)loyal and get along with Adults (especially men) and Kids but best for older kids over 10 yrs. My foster family says I'm so sweet and adjusted quickly. My foster Mom comes and goes during the day but I love to nap and look forward to playing tug of war with my Foster Dad after dinner. I would love a forever family that is looking for a companion and one who will love me! Please contact Great Dane Friends (greatdanefriend@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-21-00245Moon (male)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Moon ~Courtesy Posting~'s Story... Moon is a 6 or 7 year old neutered male (small Great Dane/American Bull mix) that was found wandering the sidewalks in a neighborhood in Wake Forest, NC. He was in bad shape and had clearly been out on his own for some time. Unfortunately, he was not chipped and no one has come forward to claim him despite numerous postings. A vet exam revealed heart worms, a heart murmur, ring worms, hook worms, an eye infection, and that his 60 lb. frame was about 20 pounds underweight. A good bath, a vet visit and lots of medications, meals, and love later, and he is now well on his way to recovery and we are looking ... (Read More)for his perfect family! He is an extremely smart, gentle and calm dog that is awesome with kids (he's been around tons of kids 8 and up since we found him) and is also good with other dogs. But what he really wants is to be with his person. He is extremely loyal and has learned some basic commands very quickly! He clearly wants to please his people!! He is good on a leash, loves to go for walks, and enjoys riding in the car. He also loves dog toys - especially tennis balls and toys where he can find and destroy the squeaker! He appears to be house trained - he has had no issues; and sleeps all night next to the bed on his dog bed. We have not been crating him and have had no issues with him when we leave him alone in the house. I work from home and he is generally very calm, spending most of the day laying by my feet as I work. I have only heard him bark once in almost 3 weeks despite all the noise and commotion with ongoing construction in our house! He is not, however, great with cats. We know he will be an awesome dog for just the right person or family! We are looking for someone with room in their home and heart for this great dog who loves to cuddle, to have his belly-rubbed, and just to be with his people. If you are that person - please consider adopting Moon! (Less)

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Very High Energy
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Abused/Neglected, Fearful/Anxious

I took Dixie out of a bad situation in Va. Howeber, I underestimated my ability to handle her in combination with my other Great Dane and 4 children. I think she has tons of potential, but I simply don't have the time and resources.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in North Carolina
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
