Champ was born about October 3, 2013 and weighs about 85 lbs. He is such a pretty, big, boy, and somehow ended up on a playground not far away sleeping under the slide at night and being chased around the park by some mean children during the day. There was one nice boy that kept calling us, but by the time we got there the large, skinny, very dirty, sad, dog was chased away by the others. Finally dog control was able to obtain a humane trap and it didn't take long for this hungry boy to crawl inside. He was a little frightened upon arrival, but has warmed up nicely. He's been through a lot and may need a bit of warm up time meeting a ... (Read More)potential adopter and may need a little time to adjust to a new home. The one photo is of him in the park - SAD!!!! Champ did well on the cat test. Update: Champ was adopted and doing great, but then a year later he was returned as he was becoming protective of his home and would nip humans walking into the house. The owners were unable to seek training advise and have always had dogs that they could open the door and have humans walk right in and that is what they still wanted of their dog. I'm sure many of you there have had dogs that you would need to put in another room or in a crate to answer the door and know that once the guest is in and seated the dog can be let back out and is wonderful with the new comers. This just seems routine to me, but it was too difficult to them. Champ was terrified on return and tried to cling to his human, but he has once again adjusted nicely into our home and the pack. It was a very sad scene, but now we know we need to look for a new home and new humans who don't mind if their canine companion isn't perfect. Champ is house trained and never destroyed one thing in their home. He is good in the car, just wants to be with those he loves and he's good on leash. It's a good thing because he's a big boy and we wonder if there is a bit of Great Dane in there. We love this guy and someone out there is going to love him too!!! What a terrible sad life he's had so far. He respected the 4' fence and was fine with the cat. (Less)

This is my dog; he is not from a rescue group. Male about 85 pounds, 3 years old and he is neutered. 100% house trained, crate trained and basic obedience (can use some more work on heel). Not good with cats, recommend that he is an only dog and no dog parks for him. He has grown up with another dog and he is with one now but he plays very rough with other dogs. Also, he is great with all humans, shy at first around adult males but due to his size, energy and tail no households with kids under 6. I am moving July 1 and unfortunately, he is not able to come with me. Looking for a high energy family, with a fenced backyard. How this ... (Read More)will work: 1. You come to meet my dog in my Oceanside NY home. If you like him move to step 2. 2. I come visit your home to insure it is suitable and legit 3. I check your reference, including your vet. 4. Visit my home one more time hang out with dog a few hours 5. If we are all comfortable he is yours. (Less)

Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
