Hercules was picked up as a stray, adopted out of the city shelter & 4 days later listed on Craigslist. He's 3yrs old. Walks nice on a leash. Has to warm up but once he trusts you, loves to hug, belly rubs & sit close & cuddle. Appropriate player. Fenced in yard is recommended & no small children as he nibbles.

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-05-00299Jack Carlton (male)
Lookin' For Large & Loving? Jack was born December 4, 2011 and weighs about 100 pounds. He is one TALL boy!! He looks like a yellow Lab, but his feet and legs are massive leaning us in the Dane direction. He is good on leash and in the car. Cats are a little too fun to chase so he will need a home with no cats. He's wonderful with all the dogs here and we feel strongly he needs another dog buddy in his next life. He is also good with kids. Jack is devoted and will, probably, be home sick when he leaves her, so he will need a couple of weeks for him to adjust and understand that getting his own home is a good thing. We do feel he needs his humans home much of the time. Even though Jack does ok on the adult Science Diet food here, we were told that Jack needs a grain free diet and thrived on Grain Free Salmon food and that he could not be crated because he would hurt himself trying to get out. The last photo is of Jack at Petsmart being the donation dog. Update: Jack has a bottom canine tooth that is split. Our vet found it to be very tight in the jaw bone and felt the risk of breaking the jaw was not worth forcing the tooth out. At this time he seems to be coping just fine. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-15-00148Castle (male)
Castle was born on Nov. 29th, 2013 and is about a year and a half old now. He has moderate to high energy and can be bossy. My wife and I are looking to adopt a younger child and he tends to want to dominate kids, smaller sized people. He is not aggressive, but his size makes it hard to control when around children. He has a lot of energy for a great dane (from what I've read) and I did a lot of research before getting him. He is a pureblood Dane with papers. He is up to date with all his shots/vaccinations and has regular vet check ups. He has dry skin/possible allergy on his back and eats grain free food and we give him 1 benedryl twice a day to keep it in check. He has been to the vets to get it checked out. It is NOT mange or anything contagious! My wife and I are looking for a good home for him. We have had him since he was 12 weeks old and bought him directly from a breeder in upstate NY. We would like to see him go to someone who has land where he would be able to run and play as he does have excess energy and our yard is smaller. He is fully potty trained. He has a humongous kennel that he goes in while we are at work. This would be going with him if/when we find a good home for him along with his food. He is currently on 'Taste of the Wild' brand food. Castle is very lovable and loves as much attention as he can get. He also loves cow hooves and elk antlers. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, as I'll have questions to ask anyone who is interested in adopting him! He currently weighs 122lbs but should grow and fill out a little more in the next 6 months. He eats about 6 cups of food a day. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-09-00802Hoss Owen (male)
Hi! I'm Hoss & I'm Great!!! Hoss was born about February 20, 2011 and weighs a, probably, about 130 lbs. or he will when he is filled out. He is just gorgeous and SO sweet! He is wonderful with other dogs and did well on the long car ride here. He did arrive with a fatty cyst on his left hip which we will have removed and then he will be good to go! He was found by dog control wandering around on his own. So, adoptions have been strong and we had room to rescue 29 dogs and 3 gorgeous cats from a high kill area. Not one complained about the long ride and all have settled in nicely. Many of them seem to have understood, right away, that they were now safe in our Dog House with fresh blankets, lots of Science Diet food, automatic waterers and even toys! It gets a little confusing when getting files ready for so many at once, so if a breed, size, age seems questionable with the photos shown, please let us know. We are doing the best we can to save as many as we can. We so appreciate your understanding and willingness to adopt a dog we know little about that would have been dead, within a few days, if they had not come here. We always test out of towners for heart worm. (Less)

Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
