Rescue Me ID: 15-09-28-00418Sammy (male)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations, Abused/Neglected

Sammy is almost 2 years old and is the best of both his breeds. He will let you know when there is someone at the door or when something isn't right. He is still in that adorably clumsy puppy stage where he trips over his own huge paws but he IS fully grown. And is about 50 pounds of pure muscle who will follow right behind you like a shadow to make sure you're alright. He's friendly and curious, he is good on walks, and when meeting new people and friends, but will try to establish a pecking order, because he's still young and silly, and needs training I cannot provide. He is crate trained and will bark when he needs to go out, but he is ... (Read More)not housebroken, because we don't have a doggie door. The $45 adoption fee is for his crate, collar, and his metal bowl, which you can take with you if you want it. I no longer have a leash for him, so you must provide one when coming to get him. Sammy needs LOTS of exercise, just like a regular great dane does, and becomes destructive when bored or lonely. He loves chewing, in fact will get obsessed with it, so he gets real bones instead of rawhide, and I would avoid plastic or rubber toys because there is nothing but a shredded mess left afterwards for you to clean up. He does gorge his food, we think it was from previous malnourishment when he was rescued the first time, so his food intake must be closely monitored, otherwise he will just eat the whole twenty pound bag. All waste must be cleaned up promptly because he has been coprahagic since the day he arrived. He needs his second year shots, but that's all, he also has a microchip, and I will provide you with his information for it if you do adopt him. He is up for adoption because I have not only developed a SEVERE allergy to dog saliva, but have also become unable to exercise him at all due to an accident, and that situation is not going to change. This has unfortunately led to Sammy spending most of his time in his crate or in the yard, and not interacting with people almost at all. His other two doggy friends have already found adoptees, one is even coming up from Costa Rica for one of them. I have been trying literally everything I could to find a home for him on my own for six months now, but have been unsuccessful. If this doesn't work, I HAVE to take him to a shelter for my health. I don't want to, but I really don't have a choice. Sammy deserves a home where he can be part of the family, and unfortunately it cannot be here. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in Nevada
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in Nevada if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
