Great Dane Mix Age: Young Adult
|Compatibility:|| Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults |
|Personality:|| Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant |
|Health:|| Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive | This guy has had a tough go of it. He was adopted 2 years ago from Corpus Christi AC, a little less then 2 years later he was returned because his owners were moving and he is now HW positive, so thanks for that going away present irresponsible owners. We believe he is about 3-4 and is a Great Dane and Lab mix. Dawson came from TX where he was in a couple different foster homes because the resident dogs didn't like him. Finally we brought him up here and he has been with a wonderful foster in CO since. She's going out of town at the end of the month so he needs a new foster or better yet an adoptive home stat. Dawson has been around dogs ... (Read More)and children with no issues or even slight concerns. He did show some toy aggression at one foster home however his current foster has been working with him on that. He is Heartworm Positive and is on slow kill treatment. He uses a dog door well, he previously kenneled with no issue although he's currently giving his foster fits with it he just doesn't like to be contained, he was also loose in the home without issues at previous fosters (as long as obvious precautions were taken, no food on counters, etc.), he is house trained although he may mark at first but with calm correction he stops, he loves to play, especially with balls, however he can become fixated on them so I would suggest use with moderation. We can also provide training exercises to help with the issue. We believe because of being moved so much he is suffering a little bit of separation anxiety that will subside as he gets feeling more secure about his surroundings, we can also help provide you with some tips for that. Also, it seems when he was neutered one testicle hadn't dropped, and the vet didn't go in and get it, I have never heard of a vet doing this, it can actually cause a lot of health issues, however Dawson was lucky and he's fine as it dropped. Although we are 99% sure he is sterile, no point in taking the chance, he will need neutered again, which we will cover. Anyone in the CO/NE/WY area interested in helping this handsome lug?
