Rescue Me ID: 15-01-14-00799Drake (male)

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Drake is a 2yr old purebred 115lb Great Dane who thinks he is a lap dog, he is bonded with Charlie and they must be adopted together, we have tried to separate and they both become very depressed. I have to be completely honest about Drake and all his 'habits'. Please read ALL below before inquiring about him. To start, when we rescued him he was starving, neglected, craving attention and was kept outside. He was barking constantly so the previous owner thought if they tied the muzzle tight enough he would stop... well, all it did was dig into his skin, scarring his nose and throat, and crushing his ear canals causing him to get sever ... (Read More)infections. When we got him out of that situation, it was $180 to get his ears under control and update his shots. He also gained almost 15lbs with us. I recommend a home with no small dogs, small children, elderly pets, or elderly people only because he has no clue about his size and damage he can cause. The Cons. He has separation anxiety, which unless crated while your away, he will bark and whine constantly and get into mischief. A home where someone is always home will be preferred. He loves to counter-surf for anything(edible or not) and drink from the sink. He loves to chew up things; shoes(flips flops are his favorites!), leather sofas, extension cords, a hole in dry wall, garbage if he can reach it, leashes, collars, clothing, plastic anything, and basically get into anything and everything he can, so he needs LOTS of toys and chew bones to keep his mind busy. He also has slight food and water aggression with other animals, so as long as you feed in separate areas, there will be no issues. He is a handful, he is good on a leash as long as you have either a prong collar or choke chain(which he will come with) as he does like to pull, he is also good off leash with recall. He loves to be with other dogs, but he has no 'doggie manners' and has no clue about how to act with them. He is rougher with females than males. He also has no clue about human boundries, just wants to be ON you. The Pros, he LOVES attention, loves to run and play, chase toys, overly friendly with new comers, likes all animals(he corners our goat and licks him, he tries to lay on the cats), he knows a few commands; sit, paw, laydown. His best friend is Charlie the Collie who is also available for adoption with him. If your still interested after all of this, please contact us. The adoption fee is for BOTH Charlie and Drake.     located in Gainesville, Ansel came to us as abused and severely Neglected. We got him all fixed up and still no one wanted to adopt him. He was adopted then returned because he didn't get along with small dog in residence . But he did fine with regular size dogs. He focused a lil too much on cats so it would probably be best to be in a home with no cats. Ansel is a total LOVER and would love to call your house his. Our dear Angel BEGS, AND BEGS, AND BEGS when someone comes to see the dogs, he says 'Take me, Take me, Take me', but because he is a mix between a Rottweiler and a Great Dane he is always passed. It breaks our heart to see ... (Read More)this. We are praying that someone will come and tell him, 'Ansel, you are coming with me.' PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in Florida
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
