This is a beautiful fawn male, well loved by his family and who in a blink of an eye, made two mistakes, 6 months apart, that changed his life forever. This boy lived with his family since puppyhood. A few months ago Oflaherty put a scratch on the family toddler. A few days ago, the toddler tried to take food away and was bitten. It was a warning bite, but clearly Oflaherty could not remain in the household with a 3 year old. In all of his 6 years, there were no other bites. We are looking for a home with no children under 15 years, a family who understands boundaries and the need for professional training. This is a beautiful dog who ...     This darling playful girl has had a difficult start. Turned into a shelter, she was suffering from a skin condition probably brought on by allergies. She is currently on a diet without corn or wheat and doing very well. She is extremely playful and sadly had no training as a young dog. She loves people, other dogs, and always wants to please.     Carly was rescued some time ago because she was getting into fights with their other female. At that time Carly had a litter of puppies and was protecting them. We believe that Carly will do well with other large dogs but we think it best not to place her with other females. As you can see Carly is very content with one of our males, her buddy Ami. Carly is easy going, very playful and loves to cuddle.

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Beuford is a 3-year-old purebred Great Dane. He is a very sweet dog and gets along with all children but probably best for a family with older kids. He gets along with dogs but only after getting to know them. He is great on walks but does not do well at dog parks or any place where there are too many dogs. He broke his leg when he was 8-months-old and has pins in it now. It gives him trouble sometimes and we think that it is causes him to get defensive around certain large breeds. He will most likely have arthritis in his knee when he gets a little older. Beuford does bark a good bit so he would need an owner that has patience to ... (Read More)work with him but love him unconditionally. The last thing my husband and I want to do is to give him away but we have a new baby and with his barking and behavior issues we have to keep our options open. Please only contact me if you think that you can offer Beuford a loving and happy home. It breaks my heart to consider giving him away but I believe there is probably an owner out there that can give him more time and show him more attention than we are able to. (Less)

My husband and I are looking to find a new home for our 4 year old Great Dane, Oliver. He is the sweetest thing in the entire world, but he is fearful/aggressive with children and we just had our first baby. He currently lives with other dogs, so a home with other dogs would be fantastic. He likes to be loved on, and knows his basic training. He is a calm an loving 2-3 year old Blue and White male with mantle or boston type markings and approximately 130lbs. Because he was neutered late, we would prefer him to go to a home where he is the only dog. We have extremely experienced giant and guardian breed volunteers who are happy to answer your questions about this dog.

UPDATE: Our Boomer has had a very successful minor surgery to correct his cherry eye. He is healing and almost ready for his new home. After staying with his medical foster a few nights, we think our Boomer is a bit high energy and loves to bark and 'talk' to his friends. He is weak in rear movement and will require some follow up care to keep him up and happy. Sadly, he was restricted for most of his life in terms of exercise and playtime and he will need short walks and playtime on dirt or grass to improve. Not a jogger or sprinter by any means! This very tall boy is a calm but determined young dog (20 months or so) and a ... (Read More)sweetheart. He won't be chasing rabbits anytime soon, but loves to be with his owners, take leisurely walks or fun rides in the car. Boomer will be ready for his new home and meet and greets next week after surgery to correct a minor eye defect. Otherwise, he is doing extremely well and put on sufficient weight since arriving to the ranch. He was a bit thin but with probiotics, enzymes and better quality food, he has progressed wonderfully.     UPDATE: While we appreciate Corona's family in their efforts to be honest about his behavior, we have had the pleasure of living with Corona for the past few weeks and have personally temperament tested him (3s) and observed his behavior. Corona is a mild as guardian breeds go. His motto is 'protect or be protected,' a learned behavior certainly. When in the presence of a pack leader however, Corona shows NO signs of protective behavior. Not towards children, other dogs, nothing. We are looking for an adult home with guardian breed experience. However please note that in comparison to a true molosser guardian, Corona is a lamb. ... (Read More)Again, as we have observed, giant breed dogs and guardian breed dogs in particular are better pets when their owners are dominant in their pack and without a need for their dog to protect during the normal course of any given day. This is a lovely dog, sweet in temperament, that will bark an alarm at strangers attempting to gain entrance to his property. Upon simple introduction, access is given and the stranger is no longer a stranger anymore. There have been no bite incidents nor have we had occasion to witness any growling or aggression directed at another dog or human. And he gets along with cats. Go figure! Thank you for considering this dog. ROM HIS FORMER FAMILY: ...He walks great on a leash and loves to take walks. There are two issues we are facing now though, in our new neighborhood. Corona gets along with only a few select dogs. He has gotten aggressive towards others dogs but it mainly depends on the attitude of the approaching dog. He is very protective of my husband and I (ON THE WALK AND WITH OTHER DOGS) which is awesome however ... makes it challenging to walk him in our new neighborhood which is very well populated with families and their dogs. We have also experienced him wanting to chase after children that are outside playing and running. He has never bitten anyone or hurt someone however he has scared the children on these certain occasions. This has made walking him increasingly more challenging in our new neighborhood. With these issues and the fact that we have no yard now we were forced to reevaluate Corona's needs and what would be best for him. It breaks our hearts to make this decision but he deserves a home with land that he can run on and a yard that he can enjoy. We want to make sure he goes to a loving home with experienced owners that will give Corona exactly what he needs. There is no doubt in our minds that he will become the love of his new owners life. He loves to cuddle and loves attention. He is very calm but also loves to play. He is house trained and is very good about letting you know when he needs to potty. He sleeps with us at night and loves to be right by your side for leisure time and movie time. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, paw, lay and kennel. Corona is currently in foster in Granada Hills. (Less)

This beautiful 5 year old girl, approximately 130lbs, is looking for a big dog experienced home and would really prefer to be the only dog or a friend to a male giant breed dog. Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

UPDATE: WILL BE SPAYED BEFORE GOING TO FOSTER OR PERMANENT HOME. We are happy to report that these dogs are doing very well, better than expected. Because of the unpredictable behavior of these dogs at the time of rescue (early evening) and resulting behavioral issues of these dogs, we felt it safe for all to board them in an environment of other giant breed dogs. On site behaviorist was able to assess temperament. We are working to introduce them to toys, treats and playtime. Tinker Bell: This black female is purportedly the sister of Ari (per releasing party). Also 6 years old and 145lbs, Tinker Bell is less confidant than the ... (Read More)other two dogs and would run away if given the chance. No signs of aggression towards people, but completely unsocialized and afraid. Slow steps to introduce her to affection and the world at large are working. Again, coat is in good condition, a bit overweight from grainy foods. Tinker Bell is starting to get used to the new environment. We currently need monetary assistance for boarding and immediate veterinary care for Eddie. We will also need funds to spay and neuter the older two dogs. These dogs deserve a chance at life and loving homes. They have spent their entire lives in a situation not of their making. They have not known the touch and hug of a loving caring human. They have not had a chance to walk next to their human, visit the beach, go for a hike. The things we so often take for granted when spending time with our beloved companions. Please help us give these dogs the opportunity to see the better side of humanity and learn how kind humans can be. INITIAL PLEA: The following is a plea for assistance from the family of this lovely Great Dane 6 year old female. We are sharing the actual plea to demonstrate the actual situation of this family. We do not need anyone's negative responses, they just won't help. If you can help, have any positive suggestions or would care to make donations to the rescue, rehab and rehoming of these dogs, please contact us at Dharris6558@gmail.com. START POST here is the info I have regarding the PURE BREAD[sic] GREAT DANES that are in immediate need of homes please,if you can help in anyway~ MY aunt is in a terrible state of sadness and due to her breast cancer process and my uncle's need for dialysis- they are losing their ranch in Hesperia- there is No time to waste as they will need to be out next week- so the earlier we find these beauties homes the better- I am in San Francisco and helping from a distance, it has been a challenge and just completed placement on three horse, a pig and two goats- the Dogs are last in my list of needs and My aunt barely has money to even buy food, with all her medical costs for her and my uncle and both retired~ to give a little back ground- My aunt and Uncle are past time breeders of Great Danes- they required all adoptions - that the new owners sign an agreement that if at anytime they are unable to care for the dogs, they agree to return the dogs and they would take care of them until they could be placed- this proved to happen more often than she/and my uncle could have ever forseen~ here is the list and as much of a Bio on each that you asked from me~ Two 6 year olds One Black Male and One Blue Female- neither have been spayed or neutered{my Aunt is ashamed of this}but, said they have not had any offspring-she had them in seperate Pins in the barn-she said they are shy of people-in kennels and haven't been in a pack so not good with other dogs ONE 2 year old Black Male he is neutered and likes everyone- she said he needs a vet to find out why he is so skinny though???     UPDATE: LOOK, UP IN THE SKY, IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE, IT'S A GREYHOUND! Nope, it's our very one Bree Bree running and having fun in the play yard. Bree Bree is a lovely 5 year old fawn Great Dane. A bit on the shy side at first, Bree Bree has been passed over for her younger, more outgoing friends. But she would be a wonderful companion for an adult family or single person. Bree Bree was kept in a kennel for a number of years after her owner suffered a stroke. It's the least we can do considering it was a human who left him to suffer in the first place with an easy fix - neuter in this case - to eradicate testicular cancer. We love you Gunnar!!!!! UPDATE: This beautiful boy has been diagnosed with cancer. He has undergone emergency surgery to alleviate a painful condition and during that surgery it was determined that the cancer had begun to spread to various parts of his body. We are optimistic that whatever time this boy has left, will be pain free with a very good quality of life with the aid of moderate chemotherapy drugs and nontraditional medications and supplements, under the supervision of a board certified veterinary oncologist. We are hoping to find a very special home for this boy, willing to give him a great life for whatever time he has left. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. Stockton boy has been spared by this gracious shelter and will be taken to a local veterinarian Friday, December 14th. Please contact us at greatdanerescuenetwork@gmail.com ASAP if you would care to donate to his care or are interested in fostering. We are trying to save his life! PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in California
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
