Great Dane    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Athena is an 8 month old GD who has lived in horrible circumstances her short life. She was kept in an 8 x 10 kennel outside, in the dirt, with two other large dogs. Not fed properly, as is obvious from the photos, not given any kind of stimulation but does love people and other dogs. She is just a big, goofy girl who so desperately wants a home to call her own and people who will give her the life she missed out on so far. She is so sweet and so loving and will make someone a great companion. She will need to be introduced gradually to the world and what it has to offer. Gastroplexy for torque surgery included in medical. Her ideal ...     Meet Kila. She is a two year old purebred Great Dane. I got her as a little baby and I love her very much. She is the most mellow, loving, sweet dog I have ever met. Around a year old she was diagnosed with Wobblers Syndrome. It is a condition that affects the spinal chord and makes it difficult to control the muscles while walking. She is currently on steroids which helps so much you wouldn't even know anything was wrong. She needs the extra love and attention that I just am not able to give her right now. When Mila came in the rescue she didn't really trust anyone but in time she has learned that strangers aren't that bad at all. Mila was purchased online and during her first years was boarded quite often. I guess Mila just didn't have a very good beginning in her life but now is just having a great time playing meeting people, getting petted and going for walks.     She was in the shelter for about 3 months before we were able to rescue her. She was surrendered by her previous human after he moved. She is a beautiful girl! Very leggy, almost as tall as a Dane. Very sweet and gentle. She walks good on a leash, seems to be housebroken, takes treats gently, knows sit and shake and loves to give kisses. She is not at all reactive to other dogs. Overall, a really good girl. She would do great in a household with an other dog to keep her company!

Fill out an application of interest first from our website at www.animalsrule.org Zeus the Great Dane is a stunning boy. He was originally bought from a breeder in Texas and he is absolutely stunning and HUGE. He is 1 year and 9 months old, born on Nov 23, 2014 and currently weighs 130 pounds. He still needs to gain another 10 pounds easily. He is gorgeous! His prior owner came to California from Texas with 2 great Danes and now needs to re-home Zues as apartment living with two large Danes is very challenging. Zeus needs his own home, family and yard. He loves to run around and play and loves people. He is big and strong and ... (Read More)gorgeous. The other Dane he lived with is an older Female. He did reside with another family for a short period of time who had 3 larger dogs. We feel he could definitely benefit from a basic obedience class. He is a puppy still at heart who is very active, loves to walk and enjoys his car rides. He just got to us, so as we spend more time with him we will update his bio accordingly. Zeus will be in foster care and can be seen at the Animals Rule Saturday adoption event from 11am - 3pm at Creative Pet Supply -305 North Harbor Blvd. San Pedro, CA 90731.     NO out of state. Must remain in the Southern California area or Orange County area is fine too. Our website is www.animalsrule.org please go there to browse our adoption process link. An application of interest is your first step in the process. Grace came to us from the Shafter Shelter in central California. She is a petite Dane at 100 lbs. She is stunningly beautiful. Gracie's age is estimated to be around 4 years old per our vet who did a dental on her after she was spayed. Grace is a very nice dog, she was fostered for a few months with one of our volunteers so we could learn more about her. She is ok with other dogs out on a ... (Read More)walk and has no trouble meeting new people along the way. We feel she would be best placed as an only dog. She was fostered in a home with no children, however she will be fine with kids in their teens. She is completely housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door. She loves to go for walks or car rides and her foster family took her camping a few times too. It took about 2 weeks for her to warm up in her foster home, after that she was following me around from room to room, begging for petting sessions, putting her head on my lap and starting at me with her hazel eyes. She loves to lean in on you, a typical trait of Danes. She would talk to you when it was breakfast time and she smiles when she is happy to see you. She is a little timid at times, a big gathering of dogs getting into a ruckus makes her a little uneasy at times, which I saw at the dog park. She will play with toys with you, fetching a ball or a big plush toy however she does not know how to play with other dogs. Grace is a lovely Dane, she needs an experienced Dane handler where she can relax while you lead the way. She knows how to sit and lay down and shake on command. Grace is in foster care and can be seen at the Animals Rule Saturday adoption event from 11am - 3pm at Creative Pet Supply -305 North Harbor Blvd. San Pedro, CA 90731. Please, do not call the Pet Supply Store. For a rapid response please contact us via e-mail at: info@animalsrule.org Grace - Female, Great Dane, DOB 12/04/11, spayed,100 lbs, current on all vaccines, had a dental, dewormed, microchipped, best as an only dog, she came from a home with no children, not cat safe.     I first met this beautiful face on March 25th. She was found as a stray and brought to the Lancaster Animal Shelter. It was obvious that she had just had puppies, she was full of milk and arill bleeding from giving birth, although she was found alone. Her confidence was shattered... She was confused, scared, and in desperate need of medical attention. That day I made her a promise, I would watch her and make sure she was safe. Well a week later my worst fear happened and she failed her temperament test, her CTA fell through, and she was listed as rescue only. After almost a month of rejection by every rescue you can think of, I called and ... (Read More)emailed over 200 of them, the stars finally aligned. The day before she was to be put to sleep, this sweet girl was saved and now she gets her second chance at freedom and happiness. If you want to meet her please let me know!     Jackson was listed at the public shelter as a Great Dane x Labrador Retriever mix. He looks like a 'leggy Lab', not super big at all. Jackson bonded with his family that he lived with every day. Sadly however, the military commitment for one family member didn't allow for a bond to form and Jackson was on guard with this member. The family elected to surrender Jackson and we are hoping to find a committed partnership this time around for him. Part of the Wounded Warrior Canine Project of homeless pets, we are searching for a partner(s) willing to commit to this wonderful dog.

This handsome 3 year old male black Great Dane would be best in a single parent home. He shared a home with domestic violence as the backdrop and while he does not exhibit any aggressive behaviors, a type of PTSD response lurks behind the surface. He has some obedience training (that darn recall isn't always sharp), walks nicely on a lead, has nice housemanners, no resource guarding. He has no need whatsoever to protect his pack leader and truly needs someone (in his mind) that can protect him. That is the key. Love with boundaries, and a home with a pack leader.     Jax is a very handsome 4 1/2 year old energetic boy. He weighs 66 lbs. Jax would make a great jogging buddy. He also loves car rides, playing with his ball and toys and playing 'Find It'. He is good with other dogs and is okay with cats. He was raised with 2 small dogs and also 3 cats. As long as the cats don't run, he is fine with them. He knows sit, down and shake. Jax needs a home of his own since he was banished to the backyard 2 years ago when the son moved out and left Jax behind. Great Dane    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Daisy is an amazing girl we saved after her years of being a breeding machine were over. Daisy is amazing with people especially children. She just turned 8 years old and has plenty of spunk left in her. Daisy is good with others dogs and would also be fine alone. She really craves human attention more than anything. Daisy is house trained, loves her walks, has great recall, knows her commands, and is eager to please. Daisy deserves a home of her own and she will make sure you know how much she appreciates it.

Animal ID: OR432Little Miss Nova (female)

Great Dane    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our darling little Miss Nova has had a tough beginning. Early on diagnosed with megaesophagus. Miss Nova with proper care and lots of luck has outgrown any symptoms and currently eats and drinks without issues. Sadly however, trauma to the growth plate of her front leg has weakened her right front leg a bit, but she gets around totally unaffected at this time. Both legs are even and for now surgery is not indicated. However, we want to make it clear that surgical orthopedic intervention at a later date may be indicated. This type of surgery could cost $5000 easily. We want to find this loving, sweet but naughty girl a great home where ... (Read More)she is a beloved treasured family member. (Less)

Animal ID: OR01223Mr. Spock (male)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

UPDATE: Mr. Spock was released to us by his owner. Sadly, he was a 'Houdini' and continued to escape from his yard. After a car accident where Mr. Spock was injured, the owner released him to our program. We have made sure he is healthy, had him neutered and are starting to work with him on manners. He is a calm an loving 2-3 year old Blue and White male with mantle or boston type markings and approximately 130lbs. Because he was neutered late, we would prefer him to go to a home where he is the only dog. We have extremely experienced giant and guardian breed volunteers who are happy to answer your questions about this dog.

Animal ID: OR-SD332Sgt. Diesel (male)

Great Dane    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

uPDATE: Our Sgt. Diesel is currently in long term foster. We are seeking donations for his continued care at this time. Please see Sgt. Diesel's wish list on Amazon.com. Meet the fabulous Sgt. Diesel. His one time companion shipped out to the Middle East several months ago. Sadly, the last few weeks together, Sgt. Diesel and his owner slept in a car. There was no base housing for the two, the soldier had just recently divorced. Because of Sgt. Diesel's advanced age, NO ONE even considered helping. Sgt. Diesel had lost weight and considerable issues with his eyes and a botched up eye job to correct congenital cosmetic eye defects. ... (Read More)We didn't care about any of that. We only saw a young man who was committed to serving his country. And a wonderful old dog who deserved a second chance at love. Well, this boy has rebounded beautifully. With TLC and very special care, this boy looks half his age. In is in excellent physical condition and loves to do a medium run in the mornings. We are extremely proud of the continuing efforts to keep Sgt. Diesel healthy and happy while searching for his new home. Foster mom just loves him! You will to. (Less)

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Hip Dysplasia

This wonderful sweet boy has late onset Wobbler's syndrome. We are looking for a foster home so that William can know the joy of having a loving family and special home. He is able to get around okay, but cannot navigate too many stairs. This is truly a special needs boy but he is worth the extra time and effort to care for him.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in California
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
