Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive

We pulled Chulo out of the Downey Shelter. His owner surrendered him there because he said he just did not have the time to spend with the dog. He was born on 09/20/2011 and he weighs right around 95lbs. He is thin so he can easily gain 10 pounds. Chulo was bought from a private breeder and he lived with another female dog in his prior home and also a 6 year old child. Chulo is very active, almost puppy like, and does not know his own strength. He can sit, lay down and and shake on command. His prior owner said he was mostly kept outside and is not formally housebroken. However, we have found that he holds his bladder in his kennel ... (Read More)and waits to be taken out for a walk to do his business. Chulo is a nice dog and would definitely benefit from a basic obedience class. Chulo is looking for a home who will make him a member of the family. You can fill out an application for Chulo at www.animalsrule.org WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS! (Less)

Ed is 65 lbs. and will most likely get up to 80 lbs. He is very passive and timid. He loves to play and truly is younger than they stated. He is around 2 years. Ed has had no training and does not understand when you ask him to 'sit', he just looks at you. He has learned the joy of running after a ball from watching my dog Lucy and if he gets the ball he will not let go of it! He is not food aggressive. With a little training he would be great taking walks. Right now he still gets spooked from his nightmare past. But calms down when he realizes again where he is. What a dog. Wow. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-05-00379KHAN (male)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered

He's a 7 year old Lab/Great Dane Mix and yes, he's a big boy. Weighs over 100 lbs. Khan is a real sweetie and a great house dog. He's obedient and smart, but like most labs, goes a bit crazy when you get home. He's just happy! Although Khan was raised with another lab, he's not dog friendly immediately to other animals. So, recommended for a home with no animals. He will 'alarm bark' at the door bell or a knock, but is very friendly to new people. He is good with children, but his size means you need to watch him around very small children. Included with his adoption is all the things you need to own a dog. His bed, his bowls, leash, ... (Read More)shampoo, food and even a extra large cage (although we don't use this for him), but we will give it to you. He's a sweet boy and a great addition to your home!     Daisy loves cuddling up near you, chewing on your fist, and running after a ball. She I gret with children and adults. But she hates being left alone and despises other animals. We adopted Daisy 5 years ago. We were not told about her anxiety at being left alone nor about her aggressiveness towards all other animals. Daisy also has a tumor on her third eyelid which is being treated with steroid eye drops twice a day. Daisy would be very happy as an only pet in a home where there is very limited alone time.

http://youtu.be/fWEIa3cEjh8 http://youtu.be/7oBzSy4Fxfw We Are In Search Of A Loving & Suitable Foster Home in OC/Long Beach area. EVERYTHING is provided for Beaumont. APPLICATION & HOME CHECK IS REQUIRED. Beaumont isn't like any other stray we've come across in rescue, his story is an extraordinary one. Like most strays we come across, this little pup suffered the threats of his environment; emaciation, neglect, abuse, and starvation; only the severity of each of these threat was unlike any other. Beaumont, a puppy about 10 months old now, wasn't just discovered roaming around the heat and dry terrain of Tijuana--he was discovered in ... (Read More)practically a heap of skin and bones using the strength he had left to drag himself around with only his two function forelegs. Such a heart wrenching thought to imagine, a man by the name of Walter had not only witnessed this for himself in person, but he had shared the plea to us in hopes of getting help for this pup. Beaumont was not only visibly emaciated, but he had also been infested with ticks and suffered the pain of licking his flesh raw and rotting. We decided to name him Beaumont, which is french for 'Beautiful Mountain' because he is beautiful and he has already shown us he is as invincible as any mountain. Beaumont has gone under bilateral hind legs amputation due to his deformity there was not another option. Since amputation he feels to move independently & freely, a true miracle to witness. Beaumont is also becoming close to be fully potty trained, he has control over his bladder and bowel so diaper is not necessary. We purchased a custom made wheelchair for outdoor walks. Currently we are focusing on helping him with wheel training consistently aside from his training with our trainer Drew Hayes. Beaumont desperately needs a long term foster home until adoption--and yes we do find unique adopters for even our special need dogs which are the majority of our rescued dogs. We strive to get him to a loving foster family who can appreciate a dog with special needs and who view his journey as inspirational. Our rescue will provide all Beaumont's needs and supply while in foster home. We love Beaumont and will do all we can to help him thrive each and every day.     This handsome 4 year old boy, has taken our volunteers by storm. We all love him to death. Syrus has had a varied and sometimes difficult history having come from a not so great puppyhood. We would prefer that Syrus be the star of his next home, the center of attention and the apple of his doggy parent's eye. He deserves it. He is currently in foster.

Martie is a wonderful, sweet, healthy 5 to 6 year old Great Dane who was abandoned in a home with her companion Markie Mark of the same age. This pair sadly was used for breeding but who clearly belonged to a family and has known affection and been pets. We love this pair. They are funny, get along with all, can be separated from each other and would make great family pets. Both dogs are currently in foster.

Great Dane    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet our special pup Marcie. She is tripod with her rear leg missing from amputation. Marcie suffered an infection to the leg which somehow ended up in the removal of her leg. We don't know what really happened as the dog was released to us after the amputation. But we are getting to know Ms. Marcie. She is a happy girl, and gets along extremely well on her three legs. We are paying special attention to keeping her three legs healthy and sound, and building up her confidence with some obedience and rally work. She has undergone so much stress on her body including a recent spay with our program veterinarian. Please contact us for ... (Read More)further information on Ms. Marcie. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

UPDATE: Mr. Spock was released to us by his owner. Sadly, he was a 'Houdini' and continued to escape from his yard. After a car accident where Mr. Spock was injured, the owner released him to our program. We have made sure he is healthy, had him neutered and are starting to work with him on manners. He is a calm an loving 2-3 year old Blue and White male with mantle or boston type markings and approximately 130lbs. Because he was neutered late, we would prefer him to go to a home where he is the only dog. We have extremely experienced giant and guardian breed volunteers who are happy to answer your questions about this dog.

Animal ID: Hes Res1Tinker Bell (female)

Great Dane    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

UPDATE: WILL BE SPAYED BEFORE GOING TO FOSTER OR PERMANENT HOME. We are happy to report that these dogs are doing very well, better than expected. Because of the unpredictable behavior of these dogs at the time of rescue (early evening) and resulting behavioral issues of these dogs, we felt it safe for all to board them in an environment of other giant breed dogs. On site behaviorist was able to assess temperament. We are working to introduce them to toys, treats and playtime. Tinker Bell: This black female is purportedly the sister of Ari (per releasing party). Also 6 years old and 145lbs, Tinker Bell is less confidant than the ... (Read More)other two dogs and would run away if given the chance. No signs of aggression towards people, but completely unsocialized and afraid. Slow steps to introduce her to affection and the world at large are working. Again, coat is in good condition, a bit overweight from grainy foods. Tinker Bell is starting to get used to the new environment. We currently need monetary assistance for boarding and immediate veterinary care for Eddie. We will also need funds to spay and neuter the older two dogs. These dogs deserve a chance at life and loving homes. They have spent their entire lives in a situation not of their making. They have not known the touch and hug of a loving caring human. They have not had a chance to walk next to their human, visit the beach, go for a hike. The things we so often take for granted when spending time with our beloved companions. Please help us give these dogs the opportunity to see the better side of humanity and learn how kind humans can be. INITIAL PLEA: The following is a plea for assistance from the family of this lovely Great Dane 6 year old female. We are sharing the actual plea to demonstrate the actual situation of this family. We do not need anyone's negative responses, they just won't help. If you can help, have any positive suggestions or would care to make donations to the rescue, rehab and rehoming of these dogs, please contact us at Dharris6558@gmail.com. START POST here is the info I have regarding the PURE BREAD[sic] GREAT DANES that are in immediate need of homes please,if you can help in anyway~ MY aunt is in a terrible state of sadness and due to her breast cancer process and my uncle's need for dialysis- they are losing their ranch in Hesperia- there is No time to waste as they will need to be out next week- so the earlier we find these beauties homes the better- I am in San Francisco and helping from a distance, it has been a challenge and just completed placement on three horse, a pig and two goats- the Dogs are last in my list of needs and My aunt barely has money to even buy food, with all her medical costs for her and my uncle and both retired~ to give a little back ground- My aunt and Uncle are past time breeders of Great Danes- they required all adoptions - that the new owners sign an agreement that if at anytime they are unable to care for the dogs, they agree to return the dogs and they would take care of them until they could be placed- this proved to happen more often than she/and my uncle could have ever forseen~ here is the list and as much of a Bio on each that you asked from me~ Two 6 year olds One Black Male and One Blue Female- neither have been spayed or neutered{my Aunt is ashamed of this}but, said they have not had any offspring-she had them in seperate Pins in the barn-she said they are shy of people-in kennels and haven't been in a pack so not good with other dogs ONE 2 year old Black Male he is neutered and likes everyone- she said he needs a vet to find out why he is so skinny though??? END POST Thank you for your consideration. (Less)

UPDATE: LOOK, UP IN THE SKY, IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE, IT'S A GREYHOUND! Nope, it's our very one Bree Bree running and having fun in the play yard. Bree Bree is a lovely 7 year old fawn Great Dane. A bit on the shy side at first, Bree Bree has been passed over for her younger, more outgoing friends. But she would be a wonderful companion for an adult family or single person. Bree Bree was kept in a kennel for a number of years after her owner suffered a stroke. She was well fed and cared for but no one shared affection with her or played with her. She needs a chance to be a part of a home and family, where she can be the 'queen.' ... All of these items can be found on Gunnar's wish list at Amazon.com should anyone care to help. He is a wonderful dog and for whatever time he has left, we will continue to make his life complete with love, lots of playtime and joy. It's the least we can do considering it was a human who left him to suffer in the first place with an easy fix - neuter in this case - to eradicate testicular cancer. We love you Gunnar!!!!! UPDATE: This beautiful boy has been diagnosed with cancer. He has undergone emergency surgery to alleviate a painful condition and during that surgery it was determined that the cancer had begun to spread to various parts of his body. We are optimistic that whatever time this boy has left, will be pain free with a very good quality of life with the aid of moderate chemotherapy drugs and nontraditional medications and supplements, under the supervision of a board certified veterinary oncologist. We are hoping to find a very special home for this boy, willing to give him a great life for whatever time he has left. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. Stockton boy has been spared by this gracious shelter and will be taken to a local veterinarian Friday, December 14th. Please contact us at greatdanerescuenetwork@gmail.com ASAP if you would care to donate to his care or are interested in fostering. We are trying to save his life! He has medical needs that will need to be immediately addressed. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in California
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
