Animal ID: AnimalsRule.orgGrace (female)

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

NO out of state. Must remain in the Southern California area or Orange County area is fine too. Our website is www.animalsrule.org please go there to browse our adoption process link. An application of interest is your first step in the process. Grace came to us from the Shafter Shelter in central California. She is a petite Dane at 100 lbs. She is stunningly beautiful. Gracie's age is estimated to be around 4 years old per our vet who did a dental on her after she was spayed. Grace is a very nice dog, she was fostered for a few months with one of our volunteers so we could learn more about her. She is ok with other dogs out on a ... (Read More)walk and has no trouble meeting new people along the way. We feel she would be best placed as an only dog. She was fostered in a home with no children, however she will be fine with kids in their teens. She is completely housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door. She loves to go for walks or car rides and her foster family took her camping a few times too. It took about 2 weeks for her to warm up in her foster home, after that she was following me around from room to room, begging for petting sessions, putting her head on my lap and starting at me with her hazel eyes. She loves to lean in on you, a typical trait of Danes. She would talk to you when it was breakfast time and she smiles when she is happy to see you. She is a little timid at times, a big gathering of dogs getting into a ruckus makes her a little uneasy at times, which I saw at the dog park. She will play with toys with you, fetching a ball or a big plush toy however she does not know how to play with other dogs. Grace is a lovely Dane, she needs an experienced Dane handler where she can relax while you lead the way. She knows how to sit and lay down and shake on command. Grace is in foster care and can be seen at the Animals Rule Saturday adoption event from 11am - 3pm at Creative Pet Supply -305 North Harbor Blvd. San Pedro, CA 90731. Please, do not call the Pet Supply Store. For a rapid response please contact us via e-mail at: info@animalsrule.org Grace - Female, Great Dane, DOB 12/04/11, spayed,100 lbs, current on all vaccines, had a dental, dewormed, microchipped, best as an only dog, she came from a home with no children, not cat safe.     I first met this beautiful face on March 25th. She was found as a stray and brought to the Lancaster Animal Shelter. It was obvious that she had just had puppies, she was full of milk and arill bleeding from giving birth, although she was found alone. Her confidence was shattered... She was confused, scared, and in desperate need of medical attention. That day I made her a promise, I would watch her and make sure she was safe. Well a week later my worst fear happened and she failed her temperament test, her CTA fell through, and she was listed as rescue only. After almost a month of rejection by every rescue you can think of, I called and ... (Read More)emailed over 200 of them, the stars finally aligned.     Jackson was listed at the public shelter as a Great Dane x Labrador Retriever mix. He looks like a 'leggy Lab', not super big at all. Jackson bonded with his family that he lived with every day. Sadly however, the military commitment for one family member didn't allow for a bond to form and Jackson was on guard with this member. The family elected to surrender Jackson and we are hoping to find a committed partnership this time around for him. Part of the Wounded Warrior Canine Project of homeless pets, we are searching for a partner(s) willing to commit to this wonderful dog.

When in the presence of a pack leader however, Corona shows NO signs of protective behavior. Not towards children, other dogs, nothing. We are looking for an adult home with guardian breed experience. However please note that in comparison to a true molosser guardian, Corona is a lamb. ... (Read More)Again, as we have observed, giant breed dogs and guardian breed dogs in particular are better pets when their owners are dominant in their pack and without a need for their dog to protect during the normal course of any given day. This is a lovely dog, sweet in temperament, that will bark an alarm at strangers attempting to gain entrance to his property. Upon simple introduction, access is given and the stranger is no longer a stranger anymore. There have been no bite incidents nor have we had occasion to witness any growling or aggression directed at another dog or human. And he gets along with cats. Go figure! Thank you for considering this dog. FROM HIS FORMER FAMILY: ...He walks great on a leash and loves to take walks. There are two issues we are facing now though, in our new neighborhood. Corona gets along with only a few select dogs. He has gotten aggressive towards others dogs but it mainly depends on the attitude of the approaching dog. He is very protective of my husband and I (ON THE WALK AND WITH OTHER DOGS) which is awesome however ... makes it challenging to walk him in our new neighborhood which is very well populated with families and their dogs. We have also experienced him wanting to chase after children that are outside playing and running. He has never bitten anyone or hurt someone however he has scared the children on these certain occasions. This has made walking him increasingly more challenging in our new neighborhood. With these issues and the fact that we have no yard now we were forced to reevaluate Corona's needs and what would be best for him. It breaks our hearts to make this decision but he deserves a home with land that he can run on and a yard that he can enjoy. We want to make sure he goes to a loving home with experienced owners that will give Corona exactly what he needs. There is no doubt in our minds that he will become the love of his new owners life. He loves to cuddle and loves attention. He is very calm but also loves to play. He is house trained and is very good about letting you know when he needs to potty. He sleeps with us at night and loves to be right by your side for leisure time and movie time. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, paw, lay and kennel. Corona is currently in foster in Granada Hills. (Less)

uPDATE: Our Sgt. Diesel is currently in long term foster. We are seeking donations for his continued care at this time. Please see Sgt. Diesel's wish list on Amazon.com. Meet the fabulous Sgt. Diesel. His one time companion shipped out to the Middle East several months ago. Sadly, the last few weeks together, Sgt. Diesel and his owner slept in a car. There was no base housing for the two, the soldier had just recently divorced. Because of Sgt. Diesel's advanced age, NO ONE even considered helping. Sgt. Diesel had lost weight and considerable issues with his eyes and a botched up eye job to correct congenital cosmetic eye defects. ... (Read More)We didn't care about any of that. We only saw a young man who was committed to serving his country. And a wonderful old dog who deserved a second chance at love. Well, this boy has rebounded beautifully. With TLC and very special care, this boy looks half his age. In is in excellent physical condition and loves to do a medium run in the mornings. We are extremely proud of the continuing efforts to keep Sgt. Diesel healthy and happy while searching for his new home. Foster mom just loves him! You will to. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in California
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
