UPDATE: Our Boomer has had a very successful minor surgery to correct his cherry eye. He is healing and almost ready for his new home. After staying with his medical foster a few nights, we think our Boomer is a bit high energy and loves to bark and 'talk' to his friends. He is weak in rear movement and will require some follow up care to keep him up and happy. Sadly, he was restricted for most of his life in terms of exercise and playtime and he will need short walks and playtime on dirt or grass to improve. Not a jogger or sprinter by any means! This very tall boy is a calm but determined young dog (20 months or so) and a ... (Read More)sweetheart. He won't be chasing rabbits anytime soon, but loves to be with his owners, take leisurely walks or fun rides in the car. Boomer will be ready for his new home and meet and greets next week after surgery to correct a minor eye defect. Otherwise, he is doing extremely well and put on sufficient weight since arriving to the ranch. He was a bit thin but with probiotics, enzymes and better quality food, he has progressed wonderfully. ![]() | Animal ID: OR3321Corona (male)
UPDATE: While we appreciate Corona's family in their efforts to be honest about his behavior, we have had the pleasure of living with Corona for the past few weeks and have personally temperament tested him (3s) and observed his behavior. Corona is a mild as guardian breeds go. His motto is 'protect or be protected,' a learned behavior certainly. When in the presence of a pack leader however, Corona shows NO signs of protective behavior. Not towards children, other dogs, nothing. We are looking for an adult home with guardian breed experience. However please note that in comparison to a true molosser guardian, Corona is a lamb. ... (Read More)Again, as we have observed, giant breed dogs and guardian breed dogs in particular are better pets when their owners are dominant in their pack and without a need for their dog to protect during the normal course of any given day. This is a lovely dog, sweet in temperament, that will bark an alarm at strangers attempting to gain entrance to his property. Upon simple introduction, access is given and the stranger is no longer a stranger anymore. There have been no bite incidents nor have we had occasion to witness any growling or aggression directed at another dog or human. And he gets along with cats. Go figure! Thank you for considering this dog. ROM HIS FORMER FAMILY: ...He walks great on a leash and loves to take walks. There are two issues we are facing now though, in our new neighborhood. Corona gets along with only a few select dogs. He has gotten aggressive towards others dogs but it mainly depends on the attitude of the approaching dog. He is very protective of my husband and I (ON THE WALK AND WITH OTHER DOGS) which is awesome however ... makes it challenging to walk him in our new neighborhood which is very well populated with families and their dogs. We have also experienced him wanting to chase after children that are outside playing and running. He has never bitten anyone or hurt someone however he has scared the children on these certain occasions. This has made walking him increasingly more challenging in our new neighborhood. With these issues and the fact that we have no yard now we were forced to reevaluate Corona's needs and what would be best for him. It breaks our hearts to make this decision but he deserves a home with land that he can run on and a yard that he can enjoy. We want to make sure he goes to a loving home with experienced owners that will give Corona exactly what he needs. There is no doubt in our minds that he will become the love of his new owners life. He loves to cuddle and loves attention. He is very calm but also loves to play. He is house trained and is very good about letting you know when he needs to potty. He sleeps with us at night and loves to be right by your side for leisure time and movie time. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, paw, lay and kennel. Corona is currently in foster in Granada Hills. (Less) Great Dane Rescue Network Los Angeles County Los Angeles, CA MAP IT!

![]() | Animal ID: OR0922Bolt (male)
UPDATE: We are still in the process of comprehensive testing (thank you GDRN) and have spent two weeks with continuous supervision through sleeping hours with Bolt. Other than some 'twitching' (involuntary muscle twitching) when he is nervous, there have been no signs whatsoever of any seizure activity. What we have noted is a dog who has not been allowed to be a dog. He has no experience with playing with toys, running with other dogs, interacting with humans during play. Yes he is most certainly a sensitive dog. But it would appear that his natural instincts to explore and question nature and life in general were restricted. He is ... (Read More)now spending the cool morning times exploring his large play area along with his friends, the Bull Terrier, a Great Dane, a Mastiff and an Akita mix! We can't keep him out of the water so muddy feet are common. He is not running and jumping and playing yet, but he is now wagging his tail and acting with a bit more confidence. Details surrounding this dog continue to get stranger and stranger and we cannot truly understand what really happened to him in the past. We simply must move forward, find him the best possible permanent situation and be thankful that the most recent owners cared enough to give this dog a third (or fourth!) chance at a real life. FROM BOLT'S OWNERS: We rescued Bolt in January, his previous owner posted on craigslist. He is a Great Dane and about two years old. He likes to eat lamb and rice dog food.He likes to sit outside and sun himself and go for long walks or hikes. He likes to try and climb up in your lap. Loves to cuddle and be loved. Bolt has had some muscle twitching in his sleep and owners considered it may be minor seizure activity. There has never been any signs or symptoms while Bolt was awake. However, we are having a work up done for Bolt before placement. This is a sensitive gentle soul who has really needs a permanent loving responsible home. Please contact us if you are financially stable and willing to allow this wonderful dog into your life and home. He doesn't deserve to be let down by humans again. Bolt is currently in foster in the West Covina area. (Less) Great Dane Rescue Network Los Angeles County Los Angeles, CA MAP IT!

![]() | Animal ID: A-101Drake (male)
This extremely handsome boy is 165lbs and 37 inches at the shoulder. He has a beautiful head and striking appearance. He is sweet, a bit shy at first with new people in a new situation, but never ever aggressive. He would make a wonderful companion to the right person or family. Drake's family love him dearly, but he was on a course for disaster in their home. Our Drake is a sock and undie eater. If these items are not put away or bedroom doors closed, Drake will eat them. Like many other blue coated Great Danes, proper diet is a must to avoid allergic reations. But of course, our Drake seeks out illegal snacks like a bee finds ... (Read More)honey. But in the right home, where clothing is put away or doors consistently closed that can lead to disaster, Drake would be fine. A bit of jogging or hiking or other consistant exercise would also help alleviate bad behavior. Redirection of energy, stronger boundaries, perhaps even an activity like rally or agility or even lessons would go a long way to increasing Drake's confidence. We are fortunate to have all of Drake's records from his breeder, AKC and his veterinarian to give any adopter a clear and concise history. Drake's stomach is tacked. As I type this, Drake just stole a knapkin off my desk. Got it back! Drake's foster mom can be contacted at dharris6558@gmail.com. PLEASE CONTACT RESCUE DIRECTLY FOR MORE INFO! Jackson's prior family needed to move and for some reason could not bring him along so they left him at a high kill shelter. Jackson is a purebred, Harlequin Great Dane. He is a BEAUTIFUL boy if you are familiar with this breed. The Great Dane is an impressive creature who does best around people. They are powerful, energetic and athletic yet lazy, loyal, gentle, understanding, sensitive and caring. Jackson was listed as 5 years old at the shelter, however we would guess 3 years old because of his puppy like behavior and he is in such good condition. His teeth are very white (all of them) and ... (Read More)he has NO pressure calluses from laying on hard surfaces. He has been an inside dog his whole life and he has GREAT housemanners and is completely housebroken. Jackson loves people and will bond quite quickly with whoever his new owners are. He is a real black and white beauty, stunning to look at and a huge conversation piece in public. He is on the small side for a Dane weighing about 120lbs. He eats around 5 cups of dog food a day so please budget for this when considering his adoption. Jackson can sit, shake and lay down on command. He loves to chase toys and will throw them around like a clown. He loves to go for walks and LOVES to ride in the car. This guy is very playful and has alot of energy. Jackson needs to be the only dog in your home, he unfortunately does not care to share his space with other dogs. He likes it being just him and his owners. Jackson is not cat safe either. Because of his size and strength, kids should be 8 and older. We are looking for an experienced Great Dane person or a person with larg dog or power breed experience. Jackson will make a great addition to your family. Jackson is sponsored by: 1. Lisa Rojany, 2. Jack Gamulin honoring Dexter adopted from Animals Rule, 3. Lex Luther is a young, high drive 2 year old boy with some knowledge of obedience basic commands. Unfortunately, that's about all of the obedience he has! This handsome boy is looking for a giant/guardian breed experienced owner. He was a beloved companion in his former family and must bond and learn trust with new adopter. Here is the post from Monty's foster dad: Monty was rescued from a gentleman who was moving to an apartment and couldn't or didn't want take him with him. Monty is 2+ years old and is a wonderful dog. He does best with an adult who will keep him in check. Monty does not do well with children perhaps due to something that happened in his past we therefore recommend that he be ... (Read More)placed in a home without children. Monty acts like he is a big puppy and wants to play as much as he can and with whomever is willing. Monty is a very rough player and like most Danes bites the other dog's neck which sometimes, especially when first introduced to an other dog, can be seen as aggression however Monty has never been in a fight with an other dog. Because of this, we recommend that Monty be placed in a home with female dogs or very submissive males. Monty is very obedient, responds very well to commands, is good on a leash and loves to give kisses and always wants to shake hands. By invitation only Monty will very gently put his paws on your shoulder and slobber all over your face. Monty loves to run and would make an excellent jogging partner. They have not known the touch and hug of a loving caring human. They have not had a chance to walk next to their human, visit the beach, go for a hike. UPDATE: Will be neutered before going to new home or foster. It is a sad state of affairs when a family must choose between their health or their home. The owners of this trio of dogs have experienced devastating illness - double mastectomy for one, open heart surgery for the other. There were no other options for these dogs, and no efforts on the part of the owners to save them prior to the deadline to have them removed. Animal control was not an option as the dogs were afraid and posturing aggressively. Here is the current status and photos on the Hesperia Three: We are happy to report that these dogs are doing very well, ... (Read More)better than expected. Because of the unpredictable behavior of these dogs at the time of rescue (early evening) and resulting behavioral issues of these dogs, we felt it safe for all to board them in an environment of other giant breed dogs. On site behaviorist was able to assess temperament. We are working to introduce them to toys, treats and playtime. Ari: This beautiful, stately blue male is approximately 6 years old (per releasing party) and easily 170lbs. He has beautiful coat, in good weight and beginning to relax in his environment. Unfortunately we could not foster this boy initially but he is getting use to the world and people. We are starting walks for now. Hopefully, we can begin introductions to calm, older female Great Danes. He has been alone for most of his life in a kennel run without canine companionship. Except to see other dogs in other runs. We currently need monetary assistance for boarding and immediate veterinary care for Eddie. We will also need funds to spay and neuter the older two dogs. These dogs deserve a chance at life and loving homes. They have spent their entire lives in a situation not of their making. They have not known the touch and hug of a loving caring human. They have not had a chance to walk next to their human, visit the beach, go for a hike. The things we so often take for granted when spending time with our beloved companions. Please help us give these dogs the opportunity to see the better side of humanity and learn how kind humans can be. INITIAL PLEA: The following is a plea for assistance from the family of this lovely Great Dane 6 year old female. We are sharing the actual plea to demonstrate the actual situation of this family. We do not need anyone's negative responses, they just won't help. 'My name is Deeter, and I am a goofy and silly puppy looking for someone to see I am really loving and sweet. I love to play with my toys and run around the yard. I most likely will still grow a bit and will be a tall boy with a beautiful build. I am looking for a forever home where I will continue to get the structure and consistency I am craving and in turn I promise to be loyal and your best friend. My trainers tell me I would do well if I were placed in a home with a stable pack and an experienced guardian, or as an only dog. I have been in training for socialization for over two weeks now, and my trainers tell me I have shown huge ... (Read More)improvements. I would do best with an owner who is confident and willing to continue my training. Please come meet me and give me a chance to be a member of your family. Currently I am in board and training in Sacramento because I have had no where else to stay, since I was rescued from a high kill shelter in the Central Valley. I desperately would love to be in a home even if it is a foster situation. I am very good in the crate, am potty trained, and mellow in the house if I get good exercise each day. I am very easy going and would make a fantastic family dog.' The trainers at Puppy Love Dogs are willing to work with Deeter and his new owners for his CGC title so he can learn how to be a fantastic pet (although Puppy Love is located in Sacramento). The trainers are in love with him and would like to see him come back for group classes, private lessons, daycare and boarding. They are willing to offer discounted prices for this amazing little boy. In addition to that, Dog Photography by Tierney Silver is willing to offer 15% off prices for a photoshoot with him and his new family! No cats or small dogs. Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
