Wonderful dog, he'll follow you anywhere. He's learned so many commands since we rescued him. Good door manners, leave it, sit, come. He is not good with other dogs yet and that is the problem for us. He needs to be with a strong pack leader. Great with children and any other human. Not sure how he is with cats, but I don't think he would be.

Someone thought if we named them after guardian angels, well maybe they would be cute puppies that would act like little angels. At least they are cute! We have a pair of darling fawn puppy boys, a bit of a rough patch with poor nutrition, but coming along extremely well now. We will require a commitment to low protein dog food, and time alone in the home not to exceed 3 hours per day. Please also review bloat and torsion if you are not familiar with those terms. These boys are currently in foster.

My husband and I are considering finding a new home for our 4 year old Great Dane, Oliver. He is the sweetest thing in the entire world, but he is fearful/aggressive with children and we're expecting our first baby in August. He currently lives with other dogs, so a home with other dogs would be fantastic. He likes to be loved on, and knows his basic training. He really is a wonderful dog - a home without children, or with an owner that can spend lots of time training him to be comfortable with kids is ideal.

Velma was isolated for the first two years of her life with no socialization. We rescued her from that situation a couple of years ago. However, she does not get along with my other dogs due to her lack of confidence and not being socialized when she was young. She is a beautiful fawn purebred dane. She has an extremely sweet disposition and is very affectionate. Please help give her a loving home where she can get the one on one attention she so deserves.

Hi, Pirate is my name and I am a Dane/ Pit Bull mix. I am about 1 year old as of January 2014. I love to run and play with other dogs and love to catch your attention with my antics. Walking on the leash is one of my favorite things to do and I wish I could do it more often with people like you. I am not sure about cats and think it might be our best interest to not try. I also do great on the couch cuddling up to you as you snuggle up with a book. I love to play, run around and go for walks (I do need some leash work). I am not the worst on the leash but I am not the best either, with some training I could be though. I am pretty smart and great at learning new things. How am I with cats you ask? I don't know, I haven't really been around them to find out.     UPDATE: While we appreciate Corona's family in their efforts to be honest about his behavior, we have had the pleasure of living with Corona for the past few weeks and have personally temperament tested him (3s) and observed his behavior. Corona is a mild as guardian breeds go. His motto is 'protect or be protected,' a learned behavior certainly. When in the presence of a pack leader however, Corona shows NO signs of protective behavior. Not towards children, other dogs, nothing. We are looking for an adult home with guardian breed experience. However please note that in comparison to a true molosser guardian, Corona is a lamb. ... (Read More)Again, as we have observed, giant breed dogs and guardian breed dogs in particular are better pets when their owners are dominant in their pack and without a need for their dog to protect during the normal course of any given day. This is a lovely dog, sweet in temperament, that will bark an alarm at strangers attempting to gain entrance to his property. Upon simple introduction, access is given and the stranger is no longer a stranger anymore. There have been no bite incidents nor have we had occasion to witness any growling or aggression directed at another dog or human. And he gets along with cats. Go figure! Thank you for considering this dog. ROM HIS FORMER FAMILY: ...He walks great on a leash and loves to take walks. There are two issues we are facing now though, in our new neighborhood. Corona gets along with only a few select dogs. He has gotten aggressive towards others dogs but it mainly depends on the attitude of the approaching dog. He is very protective of my husband and I (ON THE WALK AND WITH OTHER DOGS) which is awesome however ... makes it challenging to walk him in our new neighborhood which is very well populated with families and their dogs. We have also experienced him wanting to chase after children that are outside playing and running. He has never bitten anyone or hurt someone however he has scared the children on these certain occasions. This has made walking him increasingly more challenging in our new neighborhood. With these issues and the fact that we have no yard now we were forced to reevaluate Corona's needs and what would be best for him. It breaks our hearts to make this decision but he deserves a home with land that he can run on and a yard that he can enjoy. We want to make sure he goes to a loving home with experienced owners that will give Corona exactly what he needs. There is no doubt in our minds that he will become the love of his new owners life. He loves to cuddle and loves attention. He is very calm but also loves to play. He is house trained and is very good about letting you know when he needs to potty. He sleeps with us at night and loves to be right by your side for leisure time and movie time. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, paw, lay and kennel. Corona is currently in foster in Granada Hills. (Less)

Animal ID: K-01Lex Luther (male)

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Lex Luther is a young, high drive 2 year old boy with some knowledge of obedience basic commands. Unfortunately, that's about all of the obedience he has! He still pulls on a leash and will drag his walking companion over to meet and greet other dogs. But we're working on it. This is a charming, friendly dog who really needs daily exercise, not just a walk in the park. He will make a better dog and excellent companion if he is able to run a mile or more each day with his owner. Agility or rally or chasing balls are great as an additional activity, but 'forced' exercise is a must. He is a bit thin, but has had excellent veterinary care ... (Read More)from his friends in Central Cal. With careful nutritional supplements we expect our Lex Luther to begin putting on weight and the task of reshaping his behavior begins. If you have experience working with high drive animals and have an active, athletic lifestyle, and you are looking to adopt a lifetime friend, please contact us! This could be the one. (Less)

UPDATE: This lovely girl has improved greatly. She is in great weight, has recovered from a URI and is working on her manners. We are pleased to announce that Ms. Teena Marie is not a crazy girl, she is just a puppy! Approximately 9-10 months of age, confirmed by our program veterinarian. Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This beautiful 5 year old girl, approximately 130lbs, is looking for a big dog experienced home and would really prefer to be the only dog or a friend to a male giant breed dog. Star can be possessive of her family members. She has had eye surgery to correct bilateral 'cherry eye' but otherwise has been very healthy her entire life. Star's family love her very much and the decision to find Star a new home was a painful one. Please contact us about Star if you think she might be a match. Star is currently in foster. Great Dane    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

UPDATE: WILL BE SPAYED BEFORE GOING TO FOSTER OR PERMANENT HOME. We are happy to report that these dogs are doing very well, better than expected. Because of the unpredictable behavior of these dogs at the time of rescue (early evening) and resulting behavioral issues of these dogs, we felt it safe for all to board them in an environment of other giant breed dogs. On site behaviorist was able to assess temperament. We are working to introduce them to toys, treats and playtime. Tinker Bell: This black female is purportedly the sister of Ari (per releasing party). Also 6 years old and 145lbs, Tinker Bell is less confidant than the ... (Read More)other two dogs and would run away if given the chance. No signs of aggression towards people, but completely unsocialized and afraid. Slow steps to introduce her to affection and the world at large are working. Again, coat is in good condition, a bit overweight from grainy foods. Tinker Bell is starting to get used to the new environment. We currently need monetary assistance for boarding and immediate veterinary care for Eddie. We will also need funds to spay and neuter the older two dogs. These dogs deserve a chance at life and loving homes. They have spent their entire lives in a situation not of their making. They have not known the touch and hug of a loving caring human. They have not had a chance to walk next to their human, visit the beach, go for a hike. The things we so often take for granted when spending time with our beloved companions. Please help us give these dogs the opportunity to see the better side of humanity and learn how kind humans can be. INITIAL PLEA: The following is a plea for assistance from the family of this lovely Great Dane 6 year old female. We are sharing the actual plea to demonstrate the actual situation of this family. We do not need anyone's negative responses, they just won't help. If you can help, have any positive suggestions or would care to make donations to the rescue, rehab and rehoming of these dogs, please contact us at Dharris6558@gmail.com. START POST here is the info I have regarding the PURE BREAD[sic] GREAT DANES that are in immediate need of homes please,if you can help in anyway~ MY aunt is in a terrible state of sadness and due to her breast cancer process and my uncle's need for dialysis- they are losing their ranch in Hesperia- there is No time to waste as they will need to be out next week- so the earlier we find these beauties homes the better- I am in San Francisco and helping from a distance, it has been a challenge and just completed placement on three horse, a pig and two goats- the Dogs are last in my list of needs and My aunt barely has money to even buy food, with all her medical costs for her and my uncle and both retired~ to give a little back ground- My aunt and Uncle are past time breeders of Great Danes- they required all adoptions - that the new owners sign an agreement that if at anytime they are unable to care for the dogs, they agree to return the dogs and they would take care of them until they could be placed- this proved to happen more often than she/and my uncle could have ever forseen~ here is the list and as much of a Bio on each that you asked from me~ Two 6 year olds One Black Male and One Blue Female- neither have been spayed or neutered{my Aunt is ashamed of this}but, said they have not had any offspring-she had them in seperate Pins in the barn-she said they are shy of people-in kennels and haven't been in a pack so not good with other dogs ONE 2 year old Black Male he is neutered and likes everyone- she said he needs a vet to find out why he is so skinny though??? He is a wonderful dog and for whatever time he has left, we will continue to make his life complete with love, lots of playtime and joy. It's the least we can do considering it was a human who left him to suffer in the first place with an easy fix - neuter in this case - to eradicate testicular cancer. We love you Gunnar!!!!! UPDATE: This beautiful boy has been diagnosed with cancer. He has undergone emergency surgery to alleviate a painful condition and during that surgery it was determined that the cancer had begun to spread to various parts of his body. We are optimistic that whatever time this boy has left, will be pain free with a very good quality of life with the aid of moderate chemotherapy drugs and nontraditional medications and supplements, under the supervision of a board certified veterinary oncologist. We are hoping to find a very special home for this boy, willing to give him a great life for whatever time he has left. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. Stockton boy has been spared by this gracious shelter and will be taken to a local veterinarian Friday, December 14th. Please contact us at greatdanerescuenetwork@gmail.com ASAP if you would care to donate to his care or are interested in fostering. We are trying to save his life! PIease Read Before Adopting a Great Dane in California
Great Dane Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Great Dane is an enormous, but extremely gentle breed often referred to as the Gentle Giant. Great Danes are kind, loyal, and sociable. They need to be around people. Great Danes are gentle, devoted, and wonderful with children, but should be supervised with little ones because of their large size. Great Danes should be well trained as puppies. Great Danes can live in an apartment with enough daily exercise but do best with a large yard.
